The Hospital Museum is located in Seinäjoki, in the district of Piiri. The museum operates in a building designed by architect Axel Mörne. It was originally completed as a treatment facility for epileptics in 1928. The beautiful area with its buildings has been preserved very much in its original form.
The hospital museum presents the history and sub-areas of healthcare in southern Othrobotnia, from psychiatry to somatics, as well as the operation of Tuberculosis hospital. The museum has versatile collections. About 40 exhibition rooms tell about Southern Othrobotnian hospitals, the history of medical care, treatment of children's diseases, surgery, neurology, the operation of military hospitals and diseases that have been conquered, among other things.
The district of Piiri, located on Seinäjoki, is an attractive and historic area that brings you well-being with its cultural services. The Piiri area has also been inhabited for a long time. Until the 1960s, the hospital formed a partially closed community where patients, nurses, staff and officials lived together. The life of this almost self-sufficient community is also presented in the museum.
