Arktikum – stories about the people of the North
Arktikum provides a unique insight into the way of life, culture and history of the North. It is a museum, science centre, conference venue as well as an architectural sight in its own right. The exhibitions by the Provincial Museum of Lapland and the Arctic Centre lead visitors on a journey into the past and examine life today from the northern dimension. Human life in tune with nature, surrounded by the almost perpetual winter, snow and ice has given rise to many fates. The stories of the peoples of the Arctic regions, their means for survival and the rich cultural heritage they have created is safely stored in the Arktikum’s halls for all to see.

Arktikum provides a unique setting for meetings and conferences. The glass-roofed foyer has room for up to 700 people – under the dazzling light show of the Arctic Circle skies.
