Korkeasaari Zoo

Korkeasaari Zoo - also known as Helsinki Zoo - is located on an island near the center of Helsinki and is open all year round. The zoo is home to over 150 species, and its main mission is to protect animal species.

At Korkeasaari Zoo, you can see Finnish forest reindeer, Amur tigers, bears, and camels, among others. In the tropical houses, you can enjoy the warmth and observe the life of small monkeys, lizards and snakes. Large mammals from warm regions, such as elephants, are not kept here due to the climate and animal welfare.

The garden bursts into bloom in summer, but the autumn colors and snow-covered cliffs are equally impressive. Biodiversity has been increased by converting lawn areas into meadows. Although the city center is nearby, Korkeasaari Zoo makes it easy to enjoy the archipelago nature all year round. The island has restaurants, playgrounds, and an indoor picnic area, as well as a hut and barbecue areas, with charcoal provided by the zoo. A 1.5-hour guided tour can be booked for an additional fee.

Korkeasaari has challenging terrain but is mostly accessible. Assistants to disabled visitors can enter the zoo free of charge. Group rates are available for groups, as well as guided tours, dining and meeting facilities.

Korkeasaari is run by a non-profit foundation. It is a member of EAZA and IUCN, cooperates with nature organizations, and maintains a wildlife hospital. Every visitor supports the zoo's work, which aims to create a better world for wild animals.
