Experience the museums in Jyväskylä the City of Culture
Step into an international art adventure! This autumn, Jyväskylä invites lovers of art and design to experience two unique exhibitions. For a moment, the city transforms into a place of colours, shapes, and dreams where creativity takes many forms and visitors can find inspiration beyond boundaries.
At the Craft Museum of Finland, the exhibition the Piri Blue and Other Colours showcases the diverse career of designer and artist Markku Piri. This retrospective presents a wide range of his work, from graphic art and textiles to glass art, theatre set design, and visual identities for sporting events. Piri’s signature deep and enchanting “Piri Blue” leads visitors into a world of colour, where Finnish design gains both a strong and international dimension.
Just a short walk away, the Jyväskylä Art Museum celebrates the anniversary of Graphica Creativa, which invites visitors to dream, explore the power of imagination, and experience interdisciplinary works of art. As the oldest and only regularly held international graphic art exhibition in the Nordic countries, Graphica Creativa turns 50 and brings together contemporary highlights and historical perspectives in printmaking. A special highlight is the multidisciplinary installation FLOS – Arctic Flowers, which combines sound, movement, and visual elements to create a holistic, almost dreamlike experience.
Don’t forget the historical atmosphere of the Craftsmen’s Houses in the old courtyard of Toivola, or the inviting photography and printmaking exhibitions at Gallery Ratamo.
