Langinkoski Nature Reserve

Свободный

In 1880, the Russian crown prince, who later became Czar Alexander III, visited Kymenlaakso region and took a fancy to the salmon fishing place of Langinkoski Rapids, so he wanted to have a fishing lodge built on the banks of the river that was named Imperial Fishing Lodge.

The forest in Langinkoski Nature Reserve is quite diverse. There are impressive pine forests on the rocky hills, and lush spruce forests on the lower slopes. There are also light mixed-wood forests and multilayer deciduous forests. The aim is to conserve specimens of areas which are as close to their natural state as possible. There are also shore cliffs, herb-rich forests, wetlands, and flood meadows and coastal meadows dominated by the Black Alder (Alnus glutinosa).

There are about 1 km of wide, sandy tracks suitable for wheelchair users at Langinkoski. They take you to the rapids, to the Imperial Fishing Lodge and to the arboretum in the southern part of the area.

There are no campfire sites. Making a campfire is forbidden. Two cafés operate in the area in the summer. The Langinkosken kahvila is housed in the renovated caretaker's house by the river, while the Keisarinmajan kahvila operates on the edge of the northern parking area.

Langinkoski Nature Reserve are managed by Metsähallitus. Please always check the rules of the destination before making your trip.
