Joensuu City Theatre/North Karelia Regional Theatre is the most significant professional theatre in its region in eastern Finland, maintained by a registered association called the North Karelia Theatre Association.

Joensuu City Theatre operates in former Joensuu City Hall right in the city centre by the river called Pielisjoki. The castle-like building was designed by the famous Finnish architect Eliel Saarinen and both the building as well the theatre are over 100 years old. Joensuu City theatre organise performances on two stages and has also active touring activities. The presentation language is Finnish.

The theatre presents around 12 productions and almost 200 performances each year. The number of visitors is around 18,000–25,000 annually.
