Hamina Town Museum
If walls had ears, this building would have absorbed countless stories over the passing centuries. This stone house, a fixture of the cityscape since the 1760s, now hosts a museum whose exhibitions weave Hamina into the international tapestry of history.
The main exhibition highlights more than just royal encounters; it showcases the Imperial Cadet School, which elevated the city’s social profile, the maritime trade that provided its livelihood, and the surprisingly high number of artists born in Hamina. However, the wealth of information isn't the only reason to visit—the building itself is a landmark, featuring thick stone walls that survived great city fires and spacious window recesses that speak of a bygone era.
You can also try on historical dresses or sit down for a game of chess.
Rotating exhibitions are held in the vaulted cellar, which has been restored into an exhibition space, as well as in the förmaaki (parlor) room.
