Karvia church

Karvia Church is a wooden church built by Salomon Köhlström-Köykkä from Jalasjärvi, located in Karvia. Construction of the Karvia church began in 1789. It was completed in less than ten years in 1798 and inaugurated in 1799. The belfry next to the church was completed in 1806. The wall paintings and the altarpiece "Jesus in Gethsemane" by Carl Gabriel Diederichs from Tampere date from 1843[1]. In front of the bell tower is a traditional "vaivaisukko"(poor man).


Karvia Church is one of Finland's street churches.
