Kouvola: a sustainable destination offering nature, history and activities

Diversity of nature is our strength. The Repovesi National Park is one of the most popular nature destinations in Southern Finland. It boasts beautiful, rugged landscapes, enchanting hiking trails and various nature-based activities. Along the trails there are campfire sites equipped with firewood where you can camp out or make a pot of coffee. There are also some cottages to rent. As well hiking, you can swim, canoe, ski, cycle, cook or snowshoe in Repovesi National Park, which is open all year round.

The groundwood and board mill in Verla is one of Finland’s seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The UPM Verla Factory Museum, which manages the site, has been awarded the Sustainable Travel Finland label by Visit Finland for its valuable, long-term contribution to sustainable tourism. The museum aims to integrate sustainability into all its activities.

Arboretum Mustila is the oldest and largest tree park in Northern Europe. Arboretum Mustila is especially famous for its rhododendrons and azaleas. Rhododendron Valley is only a small part of the 120-hectare tree park, which is dominated by evergreen conifers with hemlock, giant fir and purple conifer woodland. The arboretum is home to more than 250 species of trees.

Kouvola has 450 lakes and the Kymi River, which is connected to Lake Päijänne by the Kimola Canal. Lake Käyrälampi is the beating heart of summer life in Kouvola. It has a water park, saunas, beach volleyball courts and Tykkimäki Resort with all its services.
